about us and our Family house

Casa dos Assentos is the main house of an ancient farm, separated now from agricultural activities, the property still covers an area of 1ha, totally converted into gardens and integrated in the "Turismo no Espaço Rural" (Rural Tourism Scheme) of the Alto Minho Region. Open to guests since 1984, within the concept of "Turismo de Habitação" at the main house only, in 1994 the remaining buildings and grounds were converted to tourism, offering two cottages one for four guests and another for six guests.
The garden is very pleasant having two swimming pools with constant water renovation, a tennis court and a table tennis room.

Located in a very calm and at the same time central geography of 'Minho', is easy to explore all Portugal north region with short drives.
Barcelos is right at the heart of the Minho, with Viana do Castelo beaches 25 km West, Ponte de Lima and its delicious gastronomy 18 km away, the Peneda Geres National Park 25 km East, Porto 70 km to the South, and the Spanish border only 70 km away.

One of its qualities is to be on the portuguese way to Santiago. A very recommended place to rest for a large number of pilgrims.

  • Blessed by nature!

  • It's a kind of... magic

  • Real find, an individual experience

Casa dos Assentos is located in a small village on the Camino Portuguese and was a very welcome resting place after a long days walking in the sun. It is right next door to the church so is easy to find and the bells stop ringing from 10.00pm - 8.00am so a good nights sleep is assured. A pleasant garden...

Senhora Julia welcomed us graciously and offered us and other stranded pilgrims dinner. I found the fresh water pool a delight (particularly after 19k walk there) and the surrounding countryside lovely. Being pilgrims she gave us a generous...

Wonderful service, clean, yet mystical, rooms. It felt like we were transformed into another era of romance and intrigue. The meals were delicious. Everyone was very accommodating. We travel with our 4 teenage boys and they loved it. The spacious and uncrowded beaches of northern Portugal are the best in the world. You'll need a car (or bike) to go...
